Getting Around

A practical guide to moving between Miami Beach, Wynwood, the Design District and Downtown during the busiest week of the year.

During Art Week, travel time can become the hidden cost of a bad schedule. Plan by neighborhood, allow extra time for causeway crossings and check live road information before setting out.

Group Your Day Geographically

Choose one main neighborhood as the anchor, then add nearby stops. Crossing between Miami and Miami Beach can take considerably longer during peak periods, so avoid stacking timed events on opposite sides of the bay without a generous buffer.

Roadwork and Closures: Latest Check

Information checked November 2, 2026. This is a dated snapshot, not a live traffic feed. Recheck the official links below on the day of travel.

Miami Beach construction moratorium: The City of Miami Beach lists an Art Week moratorium from Monday, November 30 through Sunday, December 6, 2026. Non-city construction-related activity in the public right-of-way is suspended during this period; City projects are excepted. This does not rule out police-managed event restrictions, emergency works or changes announced later. City moratorium details →

Miami Beach lane closures

FDOT's Miami Beach lane-closure page showed no listed lane closures when checked on November 2. This page is updated dynamically and should be checked again before travelling. Check FDOT's Miami Beach lane closures →

Downtown Miami and causeway approaches

FDOT's current work-zone listing includes scheduled work on I-395, SR 836 and Biscayne Boulevard. The listing checked November 2 showed overnight lane restrictions and daytime single-lane closures on Biscayne Boulevard between NE 11th and NE 14th Streets through November 6. These listed dates are before the November 30–December 6 Art Week period; they should not be presented as closures during Art Week unless FDOT extends them. FDOT's full lane-closure list →

What local coverage says about typical traffic

A Miami Herald guide from December 2025 reported that traffic commonly peaks between 4 PM and 8 PM during Art Week, with causeways between the mainland and Miami Beach particularly vulnerable to congestion. That is useful historical context, not a 2026 traffic forecast or closure notice. Read the Miami Herald's transportation guide →
